Overview

For nearly eight centuries, Muslims, Jews and Christians built one civilisation together in southern Iberia, and its architecture is still standing. This nine-day route runs from Madrid through Toledo - the city of three cultures - to the forest of arches inside Cordoba's Mezquita, Seville's Alcazar and Giralda, and Granada's Alhambra, ending on the Mediterranean at Malaga. It is a heritage tour with a genuine argument running through it, guided by specialists in Al-Andalus.

Day-by-day itinerary

1. Day 1 - Arrive Madrid. Airport transfer and an evening tapas walk through La Latina.
   Overnight: Madrid
2. Day 2 - Madrid & the Prado. Morning city tour and the Prado. Afternoon free.
   Overnight: Madrid
3. Day 3 - Toledo → Cordoba. A full morning in Toledo - the cathedral, the Synagogue of El Transito and the Mezquita del Cristo de la Luz - then south to Cordoba.
   Overnight: Cordoba
4. Day 4 - Cordoba & Medina Azahara. The Mezquita-Catedral, the Jewish quarter and the Roman bridge, then Medina Azahara in the afternoon.
   Overnight: Cordoba
5. Day 5 - Cordoba → Seville. Transfer to Seville. Afternoon at the Real Alcazar and the Giralda, evening flamenco.
   Overnight: Seville
6. Day 6 - Seville. The cathedral, the Archivo de Indias and Plaza de Espana, with a free afternoon in Triana.
   Overnight: Seville
7. Day 7 - Seville → Granada. Drive east via the olive country of Jaen. Evening walk in the Albaicin for sunset over the Alhambra.
   Overnight: Granada
8. Day 8 - The Alhambra. A full morning at the Alhambra with timed Nasrid Palaces entry, plus the Generalife gardens. Afternoon at leisure.
   Overnight: Granada
9. Day 9 - Granada → Malaga & Depart. Descend through the Axarquia white villages to Malaga for your departure, or stay on for the coast.

Four-star hotels and restored townhouse properties inside the historic quarters, so you can walk out into the old city rather than commute to it.

Who this tour is for

Culturally curious travellers, architecture and history enthusiasts, and interfaith or alumni groups. Historic centres are cobbled and often car-free, so expect 4–6 km of walking on full days.

Good to know

Is Alhambra entry guaranteed?
Yes - Nasrid Palaces tickets are capped daily and sell out weeks ahead. We hold them at the point you book, which is the single biggest reason to book this tour early.

Best time of year?
April to early June, and late September to November. July and August in Cordoba and Seville regularly exceed 40°C.

Can we finish in Malaga rather than fly home?
Many travellers do. We can add nights on the Costa del Sol, in Ronda, or a Gibraltar day trip.
